DALLAS, TX, October 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) Winning team in Texas' largest Medicaid whistleblower settlement debuts new website
A team of Texas attorneys with decades of courtroom experience has launched the new website Texas Whistleblower (http://www.txwhistleblower.com) to assist government employees and those at private and publicly-traded companies who stand to claim significant financial rewards for reporting unethical business practices by their employers.
Dallas attorneys Tom Melsheimer and Natalie Arbaugh and Austin lawyer Tommy Jacks recently established the Texas Whistleblower website in response to increasing demand for information on U.S. whistleblower laws and the money available for those employees who recognize and report ethical breaches in the workplace.
"Whistleblower laws date back to the Civil War, where they protected the Union Army from being ripped off by unscrupulous providers of supplies. Today, these laws help combat fraud involving federal and state programs and other misconduct by corporations," says Mr. Melsheimer. "We believe the Texas Whistleblower website will be a valuable resource for employees who want to know more about whistleblower laws, and those who are considering reporting something they already may have witnessed where they work."
In January, Mr. Melsheimer, Ms. Arbaugh and Mr. Jacks worked with the Texas Attorney General's Office to secure a $158 million settlement for whistleblower Allen Jones and the State of Texas against pharmaceutical manufacturer Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen unit. The settlement was reached during a trial that accused the defendants of using misleading marketing tactics to convince Texas officials to spend millions on the anti-psychotic drug Risperdal. The settlement amount is nearly double the largest Medicaid fraud settlement in Texas history.
"New whistleblower laws, such as those in the Dodd-Frank Act, and the money awards offered by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have created a new dynamic in the courts for employees who step forward and reveal their employers' misdeeds," says Mr. Jacks. "We're staying abreast of the latest developments in whistleblower laws in order to benefit clients from the start of the process all the way through trial."
Texas Whistleblower serves as a resource for employees who decide to file whistleblower claims. The site includes informative videos with a "behind the scenes" perspective, answers to frequently-asked questions, and information about whistleblower rights and protections.
