RICHMOND, VA, October 28, 2012 (Press-News.org) For many attorneys, the deadline to complete CLE credits is quickly approaching. As a law firm experienced in Internet law cases, the Rivera Law Group is committed to the continuous development of the law of the Internet. The Rivera Law Group frequently consults with attorneys throughout the United States who have clients with cases involving technology matters. As a result of this commitment, we have participated as faculty in various CLEs related to Internet Law.
Some of these have included Internet & Social Media Law CLE and Mastering Intellectual Property & Internet Law CLE. These courses have been offered through non-affiliated third-party CLE providers who have recognized our expertise in Internet Law.
The widespread use of the Internet and social media presents new legal issues ranging from Intellectual Property Infringement to computer fraud and Internet defamation. This was a great opportunity to discuss these interesting topics with other attorneys and to promote knowledge of legal issues related to the Internet with many leading attorneys throughout the United States. Part of the presentation included examples of issues faced by Medical Doctors combating defamatory fake reviews in doctor review sites.
The Rivera Law Group also credits AVM Technology, LLC, which provided with some of the technology-based approaches discussed during the various Internet Law CLEs where Domingo Rivera was a faculty member. AVM Technology is a leading Virginia computer forensics consulting company.
Attorney Domingo J. Rivera and the Rivera Law Group regularly provide advice to clients involved in legal matters related to the Internet. The Rivera Law Group was the first law firm in the United States to win a complex jury trial involving Federal Copyright Infringement and music piracy criminal allegations. This was also the most important case of its type. Our client was alleged to be the leader of the most prolific music piracy group in the world. After five days of a trial involving complex technology issues, the jury returned a Not Guilty verdict. This year alone, Rivera Law Group has been successful in handling and obtaining great results for clients that have been victims of Internet defamation. For example, in a case heard in New York, the firm obtained a judgment in favor of a New York plastic surgeon. Rivera Law Group also obtained injunctive relief prohibiting the individual from further postings regarding the client. In various cases heard in Virginia and Florida, the firm obtained the identity of various individuals creating anonymous defamatory posts. Sometimes the firm uses traditional methods through the court's system, sometimes the firm uses a technology-based approach. Additionally, the firm's connections with a leading computer forensics and IT security company in Virginia allow it access to technology know-how. This know-how is important for all cases potentially involving technology, from Intellectual Property Infringement to criminal defense. For further information, please contact us at (804) 332-6585.
