Spec-Rite Designs Furnishes Athletic Lockers for California State University, Fullerton

Customized lockers provide style, functionality, and height accommodations for athletic program

2012-10-31
ST. LOUIS, MO, October 31, 2012 (Press-News.org) Spec-Rite Designs, a global distributor, manufacturer and designer of phenolic furnishings based in St. Louis, has supplied custom phenolic athletic lockers to California State University, Fullerton. The custom phenolic lockers were designed to accommodate taller athletes participating in the university's basketball and volleyball programs. The solid phenolic materials used to fabricate the custom lockers are GreenGuard certified, emit very low VOCs, are non-microbial and non-porous, resistant to mold and moisture, and helped the university earn LEED credits. Spec-Rite Designs worked with API Consultants of Costa Mesa, CA and New Age Development of Yorba Linda, CA.

"The project's original quote was to fabricate standard 72" sized lockers, however Cal-State Fullerton requested taller customized lockers to more adequately serve the majority of basketball and volleyball players being 6' or taller," said Jennifer Colon, LEED AP Operations Manager for Spec-Rite Designs. "Our ability to access multiple panel sizes made it possible to accommodate the request for the custom locker heights and still achieve optimal yield with minimal waste."

Each of the eighty custom-designed 96" tall lockers were accented with wild-cherry wood grain panels, custom routering of the Cal-State Fullerton logo on the locker doors, and vented pneumatic-hinged storage benches with stainless steel hardware. Spec-Rite Designs' solid phenolic lockers are guaranteed not to warp or delaminate. They are impact, scratch, and graffiti resistant, inhibit the growth of bacteria, and are additionally backed by a 15-year performance warranty.

In addition to the customized 96" athletic lockers, Spec-Rite Designs also fabricated ninety-four 72" 2-tier lockers and four custom-designed storage units.
