Northern Virginia Custom Home Builder Receives Building Performance Institute Certifications
Company president goes back to school to get certified as Building Analyst Professional and Envelope Professional by BPI
EDINBURG, VA, November 01, 2012
Jerry Jackness, President of Craftsman Construction has just completed an extensive training course by BPI Institute. The course consisted of about 40 hours of online training and testing to prepare for the actual classroom exam. After the exam prep, I attended a week long training and testing class said Jerry Jackness. This class consisted of 4 days of classroom training and 1 day of field training. "We were constantly tested during the classroom training and any bad score would eliminate you from receiving your professional designation said Mr. Jackness". On the 5th day we were required to go to an actual house and perform a complete exam, while being watched by a field proctor and being video recorded to make sure that you were able to perform all aspects of an actual home energy audit.Individuals that have been trained, tested and certified to BPI's nationally recognized standards use the house-as-a-system approach to improving the performance of existing homes, an approach proven to reduce home owner annual utility bills by as much as 20% or more. That's why BPI standards or equivalent are cited by the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as several state Weatherization Assistance Programs.
Mr. Jackness decided to take these classes to help him better design and build homes for his clients. When you have a comprehensive understanding of how all the systems of your home work together you can give your clients a superior home that is more comfortable and more energy efficient. High energy bills, uneven temperatures from room-to-room, drafts, moisture, mold, mildew, poor indoor air quality, ice dams, pest infestations, seemingly uncontrollable humidity levels and even premature deterioration of building materials can all be the result of a breakdown in the relationship between the systems in your house - the building envelope (shell), heating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and you, the occupants.
