SHREVEPORT, LA, November 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) BRA Day USA was Oct. 17, and The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery, a leader in breast reconstruction and breast augmentation in Louisiana, was proud to be one of the event's local sponsors.
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, also known as BRA Day USA, is designed to bring attention to the options for breast reconstruction available to women following mastectomies. The premier event of BRA Day USA was an Oct. 29 benefit concert in New Orleans featuring four-time Grammy nominee Jewel, who is a national spokesperson for the initiative.
"An Evening With Jewel" is being held in conjunction with Plastic Surgery The Meeting, the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, was on Oct. 26-30 in New Orleans. The meeting brought together physicians and aesthetic specialists from around the world to discuss the latest research and technological advancements in plastic surgery.
"BRA Day USA focuses on an extremely important issue in the world of plastic surgery," says Dr. Holly Wall, one of the plastic surgeons at The Wall Center. "We're finding that, unfortunately, women often don't receive much information or education about their options for breast reconstruction following a mastectomy, especially minority women. We want to change that."
The Wall Center surgeons perform advanced breast reconstruction surgeries, including flap procedures and reconstruction with breast implants in Louisiana. According to Dr. Wall, today's breast reconstruction options are "truly remarkable."
As one of the local sponsors of BRA Day, Dr. Wall says "We're hoping to raise awareness about this issue so that more women will be able to feel feminine and whole again after they have lost a breast to cancer."
She said it is estimated that 7 out of 10 women who undergo mastectomies are never told about their breast reconstruction options.
Dr. Wall, who practices with her husband, Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., and father-in-law, Dr. Simeon Wall Sr., all plastic surgeons in Shreveport, Louisiana, says "We're hoping Jewel's concert and other BRA Day USA events across the country will bring attention to the issue, as well as raise money for research and education."
Proceeds from this event will benefit breast reconstruction research and education organizations, including the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Fund of The Plastic Surgery Foundation and the Breastoration program of the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans.
The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery (www.wallcenter.com) was founded in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1970 by Dr. Simeon Wall Sr. His son, Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., and daughter-in-law, Dr. Holly Wall, joined the practice after completing their general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Stanford University. This family of board-certified plastic surgeons specializes in cosmetic surgery for the breast, body and face and serves patients from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma. The practice performs more than 2,000 cosmetic surgery procedures each year and has earned special recognition from each of the 3 major U.S. breast implant manufacturers. The doctors have been selected as "Top Plastic Surgeons" by their peers and consumer groups alike.
