SCHAUMBURG, IL, November 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) Rabine Group and Rabine Utility Paving (RUP) hosted a seminar on a new innovative method of paving. Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is a durable, economical and environmentally friendly paving material able to carry heavy loads. The Rabine Group seminar began at 9:00 a.m. on October 22nd.
The presentation introduced this unique way of paving and outlined its benefits. A demonstration of RCC followed the seminar on November 1st. The demonstration showed the raw material, how it is placed and how fast the concrete dries.
As traffic volume increases and funding for pavement maintenance is stretched, RCC is becoming the value-engineered pavement of choice for many applications. It is a durable, economical and environmentally friendly paving material able to carry heavy loads. RCC has an initial cost competitive to asphalt pavements yet offers the life cycle and low maintenance costs of a concrete pavement.
RCC is used for all types of industrial or heavy-duty pavement applications because it has the strength and performance of conventional concrete. It also offers a quick return to traffic allowing businesses to stay open. RCC pavements provide higher solar reflectivity reducing urban heat island effects and lighting requirements for pavements.
RCC is made up of the same materials in conventional concrete: cement, water, and aggregates. However, it is a much drier mix than conventional concrete and stiff enough to be compacted with rollers. RCC projects are constructed without dowels or steel reinforcing making it a simple, fast, and economical material for heavy duty pavements compared to asphalt and conventional concrete.
