CHAPEL HILL, NC, November 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) Nationally recognized cookbook author and food editor Susan Wyler, MPH, RD, LDN, will speak on "Healthy Aging" with Dr. Remy Coeytaux, M.D., PhD, founder of Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center at the Weathervane located at 201 South Estes Drive in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Tuesday, October 16 at 8:45 a.m.
A registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Wyler will cover several topics in the lecture including: renewing your energy and vitality after the age of 50, falls prevention, building strong bones, and nurturing your brain. The lecture will be held as part of the "Senior Striders University Mall Walking" program, which is sponsored by UNC Healthcare, the Orange County Department on Aging and the Chapel Hill Police Department Mall. The program is offered the third Tuesday of each month. "As we all age, it's important to realize that we must keep our mind and body in tip-top shape. Nothing is more important than nurturing yourself so you can live your life to the fullest," said Wyler. "Working with Dr. Coeytaux at the Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center has been a pleasure. Together, we have a shared belief in the importance of educating people on healthy aging and proper nutrition.
Earlier this year, Wyler opened Triangle Nutritional Wellness as a complementary practice at Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center. Wyler works with the center to provide Triangle area patients with traditional and integrative medical nutrition therapy and dietary support. Her practice specifically addresses the following areas: prevention and management of chronic diseases, specialized needs of older adults, reducing acid reflux, diabetes education, obesity counseling, cancer support, and detoxification to address food allergies and intolerances.
Wyler received her Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this time, she completed an advanced internship at Institute Gustave Roussy, one of the leading cancer research hospitals in France. Wyler also collaborated with Dr. Thomas Rau, a Swiss physician who practices biologic medicine, which excels at treating chronic degenerative and inflammatory diseases. In addition to her work at Triangle Nutritional Wellness, she is also an Adjunct Instructor in Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at the Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Before becoming certified as a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist, Wyler was a nationally known food editor, most notably at Food & Wine magazine, and author as well as producer of numerous award-nominated, best-selling cookbooks.
Co-founder of Chapel Hill Doctors Integrative Health Center and a former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, Coeytaux is a board-certified family physician, who received his M.D. from Stanford Medical School and his Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health. Previously on faculty at the UNC-CH School of Medicine, he is now an Associate Professor at Duke University School of Medicine and a faculty member of the Duke Evidence-based Practice Center.
