Beutler Partners with West Sacramento Educational Foundation to Encourage Students to Think Green

Call for Entries: West Sacramento Students Invited to Participate in Energy Conservation Project for a Chance to Win $500 Grand Prize

2012-11-07
IRVINE, CA, November 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) Beutler Air Conditioning and Plumbing, a residential heating and air conditioning service company in Sacramento, has partnered with the West Sacramento Educational Foundation (WSEF) to give back to the West Sacramento community, while raising awareness for best practices in energy conservation. The West Sacramento Educational Foundation's goal is to enrich the educational opportunities for all students within Washington Unified School District by supplementing public revenues through the issuance of mini grants.

Beutler and the West Sacramento Educational Foundation have created an opportunity for children to expand their critical-thinking skills by submitting project ideas focused on energy conservation. Beutler and the WSEF encourage kindergarten through eighth grade science classes in the Washington Unified School District to enter their best ideas on how to reduce the load on the energy grid, and the type of impact their idea could have on the community. The contest is open to all "green" ideas and the class with the winning idea will be rewarded with a $500 cash prize; second and third place finalists will be rewarded with a $300 and $200 cash prize, respectively. In addition, Beutler will match the total prize earnings with a $1,000 donation to the West Sacramento Educational Foundation.

"Community involvement is important to our team at Beutler and giving back to our local schools and students is of the highest priority," said Jim Anderberg, general manager, Beutler Air Conditioning and Plumbing. "This green initiative aligns with Beutler's focus on energy-efficient practices and technologies, and will help bring awareness to the younger generation. Our hope is that we can encourage our youth to think about the impact they can make on our environment and share those ideas with the community as a whole so we can start making changes right here in West Sacramento."

Submissions for the project will be accepted now through Dec. 20, 2012. To enter, students must submit an essay that explains their energy-savings idea. All entries must include a thorough explanation of the idea, the potential impact of the idea on the economy and/or community, and how the idea can be implemented throughout the community. Students may also submit a drawing or model to accompany their essays. Winners will be chosen and announced in January, 2013. Projects are to be submitted to ThinkGreen@beutler.com no later than Dec. 20. In addition to the prizes for the winning classes and the donation to the West Sacramento Educational Foundation, Beutler will donate $30 to WSEF for every Beutler Home Service Plan purchased by Sacramento residents during the months of November and December.

The Beutler Home Service Plan includes two full-service maintenance tune-ups/ inspections within a one-year period. HSP membership guarantees customers benefits and services for their home, including discounts on repairs and selected services, priority scheduling, and a full one-year guarantee on all work performed.

"The Board of Directors at the West Sacramento Educational Foundation are pleased to partner with Beutler Air Conditioning and Plumbing and embrace the company's support of the educational needs of the community's children," said WSEF president Barry Kalar. "We hope this will be the beginning of a long community partnership."
