ABC11 Eyewitness News Kicks Off 26th Heart Of Carolina Food Drive On Nov. 16

ABC11's John Clark To Serve As Emcee For Event Benefitting Food Bank Of Central And Eastern North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC, November 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) ABC11 Eyewitness News (http://www.abc11.com) has announced that this year's Heart of Carolina Food Drive will kick off on Friday, November 16th. Anchor John Clark will serve as the emcee for this 26th annual event. The Heart of Carolina Food Drive, which is sponsored by ABC11, is a community-wide food and funds drive to help stock the shelves of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, as well as the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina, in preparation for the coming winter months. This year's kickoff event will take place at the food bank's warehouse location at 3808 Tarheel Drive in Raleigh. Beginning in the fall each year, the Heart of Carolina Food Drive provides assistance to more than a half million children, parents and grandparents who are at risk of hunger throughout the ABC11 viewing area. This year, the food drive aims to collect a total of 5.5 million pounds of food.

After the kickoff, individuals can make donations using Heart of Carolina grocery bags, which will be included in local newspapers and can be filled and dropped off at any Kroger location or food bank branch. The grocery bags can be found in The Pilot (Sandhills) on Friday, Nov. 16, as well as in The News & Observer (Raleigh) and The Herald-Sun (Durham) on Saturday, Nov. 17. An insert will also be in the Fayetteville Observer on Saturday, December 1st.

Additionally, the food drive will host its Drive-Thru Day on Wednesday, Dec. 5. On this day, members of the ABC11 Eyewitness News family will be at several Kroger locations throughout the region to meet and greet residents dropping off donations. Participating Kroger stores are located at 1273 NW Maynard Road in Cary, 8345 Creedmoor Road in Raleigh and 3457 Hillsborough Road in Durham. In Fayetteville, ABC11 Eyewitness News will collect donations at 2800 Raeford Road. Individuals may drop off donations at CenturyLink in Wake Forest, located at 14111 Capital Blvd, as well.

Partners in this year's ABC11 Heart of Carolina Food Drive include Kroger, CenturyLink, and the Law Office of D. Hardison Wood, as well as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeastern North Carolina.
