The 2011 show brought more than 14,000 visitors and 1,000 exhibitors from 45 states and 27 countries.
"The WorkBoat Show is really where the industry comes together and it's the key show for this market," commented Martin Meissner, ZF Marine. "It's a world class show."
Fourth Annual WorkBoat Executive Summit, December 4
Whether a company is a small business or publicly traded corporation, capital is the engine that drives it. To help find solutions to where that capital comes from in today's challenging economy, WorkBoat magazine presents the Fourth Annual WorkBoat Executive Summit at the Morial Convention Center.
"This is the only industry forum offering a private and exclusive setting for critical information sharing, idea generation and rare business to business collaboration," said David Krapf, editor in chief of WorkBoat magazine and WorkBoat.com. "The Summit will provide maritime executives the right resources to keep their companies competitive and profitable."
Krapf said the Summit is designed exclusively for senior managers from every sector of the commercial marine industry including fleet owners, builders and finance executives.
The Summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4.
"World Economic Prospects: Risks and Opportunities After the Great Crisis" will be the topic of the Summit's keynote address by Michael Mandelbaum, Professor, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Mandelbaum is the author of 13 books and the editor of 12 more. Foreign Policy magazine named him one of the "Top 100 Global Thinkers" of 2010.
The Summit features three industry panels:
Vessel Construction and Repair Panel Discussion - The panel discussion involving Vessel Construction and Repair issues focuses on a full spectrum of related topics ranging from initial contract formulation and negotiation to christening a new build or re-launching a repaired hull.
Product & Credit Panel Discussion - Panelists will discuss the submission of financial data to potential capital sources and the impact of both positive and negative financial results.
Asset Valuation/Restructure Panel Discussion - What are trends in commercial vessel valuations? Have vessels appreciated, depreciated? How does replacement cost affect current fair market, orderly liquidation and forced liquidation values? What is the definition of each? How does an economic survey differ from a condition and valuation survey. What multiples apply when considering day rates, utilization and other economic factors to determine trends in vessel valuations? These are the questions this panel will seek to answer.
Registration is available at www.WorkBoatSummit.com and the Summit costs $600 for Early Bird (Before November 16) and $700 for Regular (November 16 or later).

WorkBoat Environmental Awards, 2:30 p.m.
The WorkBoat Environmental Awards recognize businesses and government agencies, operating in the U.S. maritime industry, which exemplify innovative and effective environmental process initiatives in daily operations.
This year, the WorkBoat Environmental Awards will be presented in two categories:
1. Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan - designed to showcase a wide-ranging, all -inclusive environmental program that is part of the company-wide culture and goes well beyond State and Federal mandates.
2. Environmental Initiative - designed to showcase a one-time specific initiative, process and/or project that has a beginning and an end, and goes well beyond State and Federal mandates. For example: replacement program for tugboat engines, new green building, oil/ water separator technology, new environmentally friendly painting process at a shipyard, shore power for a cruise ship, recycling fishing nets, etc.
The WorkBoat Environmental Award is for initiatives that are over and above regulatory compliance. A committee comprised of industry, environmental, regulatory and media representatives reviews the applications and selects the award recipients.
WorkBoat Magazine's 10 Significant Boats of 2012, 3 p.m.
WorkBoat's editorial staff reviews scores of boats that appeared in the magazine during the previous 12 months (December 2011 to November 2012). 2012-11-09
We all know that double glazed windows are more energy efficient than single glazed windows. But why is this? Argon filled windows are becoming very popular with energy saving householders, and this article will explain why.
How Double Glazing Works
The layer of air between the two panes of glass in double glazing acts as a barrier to protect the transfer of heat energy from inside to outside your home. In single glazed windows, the heat energy from your home hits the glass and is conducted straight through and into the cold air outside, where it is lost. With double ...
