TALLAHASSEE, FL, November 09, 2012 (Press-News.org) On Thursday, November 8th at 10:00AM, runners of the 8th Special Operations Forces Run will be making their way into Tallahassee for short presentation with city leaders at the Unconquered statue at Doak Campbell Stadium. The run is put on by Operation One Voice and honors the memory of Fallen Naval Special Warfare.
The run, which gathers twenty-four law enforcement and military officials, started on Tuesday morning November 6th at 08:00 and will continue around-the-clock in a relay fashion, until the runners reach MacDill AFB, FL some 550 miles away.
The group of runners is composed of officials from the Tallahassee Police Department, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, U.S. Federal Agents, State Troopers, Military Special Operations Forces from Tampa, FL and Naval Special Warfare from Little Creek, VA.
This year's Special Operations Forces Run will be in honor of the memory of the 17 Navy Seals, 5 Naval Special Warfare Support Personnel and K-9 Bart that lost their lives during an attack on their Chinook helicopter on 8/6/2011. The group was flying in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on a mission to capture a high value target when the helicopter was shot down by enemy fire causing the helicopter to crash killing all on board.
Lt. Bill Stevens, organizer of the event, and founder of Operation One Voice is honored to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives while protecting our freedom. About the Run, Stevens says "It is a great opportunity for different communities and law enforcement agencies to come together in support of our fallen military. Every law enforcement agency along the route is involved in many ways, including making sure our runners travel safely along the roads." Stevens also comments that the run would not be possible without support from local, state and federal branches of law enforcement.
Among those lost in the attack was former FSU student, Tech. Sgt. John W. Brown, 33.
