Cary Family Dental Raises Nearly $6,000 for Annual Smiles For Life Four-Month Campaign

Recent campaign drive by award-winning dental practice brings seven-year total close to $76,000

2012-11-16
CARY, NC, November 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) For the seventh consecutive year, Dr. Allan Acton and Cary Family Dental offered teeth whitening services at a significantly reduced price to help benefit those less fortunate. During a four-month fundraising effort that lasted from March 1st to June 30th, the Cary dental practice raised $5,893 for Smiles For Life Foundation.

The Smiles For Life Foundation is the children's charity arm of the Crown Council, an organization of leading-edge dentists throughout North America. Philips Oral Healthcare (makers of ZOOM! teeth bleaching and BriteSmile trays) donates all of the teeth whitening supplies and participating Crown Council dentists donate all of their time. Together, they offer professional teeth bleaching services at substantially reduced prices with 100% of the proceeds going to a children's charity.

Since 2006, Cary Family Dental has raised nearly $76,000 for the foundation. In 2010, the practice was recognized in the Top 5 Percent of national Smiles For Life fundraising participants—ranking #17 out of 400 participating Crown Council dental practices throughout North America.

"I'm proud of our partnership with Crown Council and the awareness that we've been able to raise through our efforts for the Smiles For Life Campaign," says Dr. Acton. "A few years back, I promised to shave my head if we raised $20,000 for this wonderful cause. We met our goal, and I went bald for fall. We've become so successful at fundraising, I made sure not to repeat that challenge this year!"

Over the years, Cary Family Dental has used its portion of the campaign proceeds to support Triangle Down Syndrome Network and Interact. Last year, the practice was able to send team members to the Dominican Republic to offer dental services to those who need it most. This year, the proceeds were used to help fund its Dentistry from the Heart initiative. The event, held on April 12th, provided $46,000 of free dental services to 150 people who otherwise might have gone without this much-needed care.

"All of us at Cary Family Dental look forward to continuing our support of Smiles For Life and to raising money for this amazing association and cause," adds Dr. Acton.
