2012-11-16
OKLAHOMA, OK, November 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) Oklahoma City Firefighters, IAFF Local 157, Board of Chief Officers, and the Oklahoma City Retired Firefighter Association are providing 2,000 Oklahoma City school children with brand-new coats through their partnership with Firefighters Coats for Kids Foundation, a division of the largest non-profit distributer of new coats in the U.S., Operation Warm. "Since 1990, we have provided coats for children in need but the most we could cover in a single year was 110," stated Teddy Wilson, Chaplain, Local 157, Oklahoma City Firefighters. "With Operation Warm behind us we will be able to reach 2,000 children in four days. We feel blessed to be able to do this for the children."

Oklahoma City Firefighters will serve the entire student population at four elementary schools across Oklahoma City and Putnam County - Westwood, Britton, FD Moon, and Windsor Hills. They have fundraised year round to prepare for this effort in which they will spend a day with each elementary school ensuring they personally fit each child with their brand-new coat, and helping to write their name on the interior tag which reads, "Made Especially for You."

Children will be receiving their new coats just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday, which Oklahoma City Firefighters hope will bring families a bit of added joy.

Nov. 13th - West Wood Elementary 10am-1pm
Nov. 14th - Britton Elementary 9am-12pm
Nov. 15th - FD Moon Academy 9am-12pm
Nov. 19th - Windsor Hills Elementary 9am-12pm

"This was the most touching coat distribution I've attended," stated Operation Warm Executive Director Carey Palmquist. "The amount of personal care and attention firefighters paid each child is inspiring."
