CHARLESTON, SC, November 21, 2012 (Press-News.org) Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina made an estate planning and probate presentation at Summerville Estates Retirement Community In Summerville, SC on Friday October 5th 2012. Summerville Estates Gracious Retirement Living is an independent community that offers amenities such as home-cooked meals, game night, on-site management teams, special excursions to cultural events, day trips, museums, and other places of interest. Summerville Estates also has a movie theater inside the complex that offers movies t residents. Attorney Evan Guthrie made his estate planning talk in the movie theater. There were comfortable movie theater seats where residents could listen to Mr. Guthrie speak. The movie theater was located on the third floor of the building, but there was an elevator to allow residents to easily get to the location.

Attorney Guthrie's presentation was scheduled to cover the core fundamentals of planning an estate include what an estate and assets are, the difference between probate and non-probate assets, how the probate court system works, the different types of documents that are involved in planning including last wills and testaments, living trusts, pour over wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives, how to plan for incapacity and difficult end of life healthcare decisions, mistakes in planning that commonly occur, and a comprehensive list of items that need to be put together to make sure a plan is properly concluded. Mr. Guthrie answered questions that included the validity of a will if someone has a different name from when the will was originally made and how to best distribute assets to children that had various degrees of contact and assistance. Attorney Evan Guthrie was happy to be able to teach and educate on such an important topic for a community and segment of the population that may need an estate plan more than others or to learn more about the plan they already have in place.
