Houston Heating Repair Saves Energy, Money, and Health Through Routine Furnace Maintenance

Houston heating repair expert Murray Kaiman of HousePro Heating discusses the safety and cost-saving benefits of annual maintenance for heating systems.

2012-11-27
HOUSTON, TX, November 27, 2012 (Press-News.org) As the temperature starts to drop, many Houston area residents are preparing to flip on their heating units. Before doing so, homeowners should get a quick inspection of their furnaces to make sure they work safely and efficiently.

"You change the oil in your car to keep it running smoothly, and the same kind of care for your heating system can prevent minor malfunctions and serious dangers," says Murray Kaiman, of Houston and Sugar Land heating service, HousePro.

A clean and tuned up heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit can conserve energy and money by operating at an efficient level. A pre-season inspection can prevent a last-minute repair call when the furnace does not function on a frigid morning.

Yearly heating repair services offer additional benefits. Houston and Sugar Land area residents can typically steer clear of significant repairs by removing dust and particles from the system, and lubricating the mechanical parts regularly. Equipment manufacturers may require yearly or twice-a-year furnace maintenance to maintain a valid warranty.

More important is the safety benefit provided by an annual furnace tuneup, as heating units can develop hidden leaks or blockages that could endanger area families. Cracks in the furnace's heat exchanger or a puncture in a natural gas supply line can be the culprit. Blocked flue vents and leaky furnaces create a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning through the natural gas emissions into a house.

Carbon monoxide is undetectable to humans and animals until they get ill, with such problems as headaches, fatigue, nausea and dizziness. Fire is another risk when a natural gas leak occurs. Natural gas is highly flammable, and sparks from lighters, computers or lighted candles can cause an explosion.

A Houston and Sugar Land heating service inspection includes checking electrical connections, system controls and heater exchange, lubricating moving parts, performing a carbon monoxide test and calibrating the thermostat.
