DUBAI, UAE, November 28, 2012 (Press-News.org) Local businessman from Leeds United Kingdom supports research into inherited heart diseases. Inherited cardiomyopathy supporter Christopher Middleton, a prominent local Dubai businessman originally from Leeds United Kingdom, is hoping to raise the awareness of inherited cardiomyopathy.
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It can run in families (inherited) and can affect one or more members of a family, as it has Christopher's. The disease, which can make the heart muscle floppy and too weak to pump effectively, is caused by inherited mistakes in peoples' DNA which cause defects in the heart muscle. Christopher says: "It means a lot to me to raise the awareness of this disease and to help fund research into this complex condition and help to lead to new future treatments."
Of humble origins, Christopher is an only child born of Irish immigrants who settled in one of the more deprived areas of Leeds, a large city in the north of England.
Instilled with a determined work ethic, he began his working life at 13 when he joined a local gymnasium, opening up the facility for the owner starting each day at 0430 before attending his local large single faith secondary school. School proved to be a place in which Christopher excelled, achieving a number of GCSEs all at credibly high grades and which provided the stepping stone to Sixth Form College where he was awarded a Distinction in Business & Finance. Gifted with a natural aptitude for figures he chose to further his studies and undertook a degree course in Business & Finance. In order to fund himself through his university studies Christopher worked a 40 hour week. As part of his thesis he was invited to America where he undertook various examinations, all of which he passed with ease and went on to graduate with a 2:1.
Following graduation Christopher was immediately head hunted by a local consortium to structure a takeover of his local football team - namely the famous Leeds United. Having a passion for his home team and being a life-long fan, through his determined efforts Christopher successfully procured the acquisition of the football club on behalf of the consortium - at the time making him the youngest Chief Financial Officer of any Premiership football club. During difficult times for the country and especially the club, Christopher successfully saved Leeds United from Administration four times by re-structuring the considerable debts accrued by the previous management team. Unfortunately, the consortium proved to be somewhat unethical and requested Christopher to undertake certain courses of action against first team players with which he was uncomfortable doing and refused to do so. As a result he resigned from his position at Leeds United and reported the consortium to the Football Association. Although never prosecuted, two members of the consortium have since been given custodial prison sentences as a result of other offences.
His next appointment was as Director for a multi-national property developer, making him the youngest director ever appointed. A position he maintained for the next six years. Eager for change and to expand upon his experience Christopher then relocated to the United Arab Emirates where he established a property brokerage in Dubai, Brix Real Estate Brokers. He ran Brix for three years before selling the company to a management buy-out.
Now a partner in an international trading group, Christopher has responsibility for managing the business financially, keeping abreast of global legal markets and being the focal point for commercial finance and property acquisition.
