LateRooms.com - Enjoy Putting the House to Bed in Norfolk

Next month's Putting the House to Bed event will give visitors to Oxburgh Hall a rare insight into the running of the manor house.

2010-10-15
NORFOLK, ENGLAND, October 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) People who fancy a look behind the scenes at a spectacular National Trust property may be inspired to book Norfolk hotels for a forthcoming event.

On November 6th and 7th, Putting the House to Bed is set to take place at Oxburgh Hall near King's Lynn.

The event will give visitors a chance to see how the moated manor house prepares for the winter and provide an insight into the ongoing conservation of the property, which was built in the 15th century.

Due to run between 10:00 and 12:30 on both days, Putting the House to Bed is priced at GBP12. Coffee and biscuits are included in the price.

Built by the Bedingfield family in 1480s, Oxburgh Hall is one of the nation's finest examples of a late medieval, inward-facing country house.

Notable features of the property include needlework hangings by Mary, Queen of Scots and a secret priest's hole that visitors can crawl inside.

As well as events such as Putting the House to Bed, the hall regularly hosts woodland walk, nature trails and free garden tours.

Parking at Oxburgh is free and visitors can purchase refreshments in the Old Kitchen tea room or choose a memento in the gift shop, which stocks a variety of local Norfolk produce.

For more information on this event, visit the National Trust website.
