TAMPA, FL, December 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Lower income families will have the opportunity to shop for toys, gadgets and gizmos at one-tenth of their retail cost this Christmas season. Tampa nonprofit, Current of Tampa Bay, will sponsor Affordable Christmas on Dec. 8, 2012.
"We want to empower low income families during the holidays by helping them provide a wonderful Christmas for their children," says Founder and President of Current, Jason Sowell. "Having families purchase items rather than taking a free handout empowers them by allowing them to make an investment in what they give to their children and have the satisfaction that they could provide for them."
This is Current's first year sponsoring Affordable Christmas. Toys for Affordable Christmas are being collected by donation at Crossover Church, Watermark Church and Starbucks of Seminole Heights and will be sold at one-tenth of their original value at Crossover Church on the morning of Dec. 8.
"Affordable Christmas is especially empowering for fathers and leaves dignity intact. We want these families to know that they are loved and valued and the hope of Christmas is very real," says Sowell.
Participating families must be considered low-income and invited or referred by members of Crossover Church, Positive Spin or Urban Young Life organizations. If you would like to refer a family, you may contact one of these Current of Tampa Bay partners.
Crossover Church, Positive Spin, Urban Young Life, Watermark Church, Vistra Communications and Starbucks Tampa District are providing sponsored support for Affordable Christmas. However, Current is still in need of sponsors, donations and volunteers. Items requested for donation include board games, footballs, purses, shoes, legos, coloring books and more.
If you are interested in helping in any of these capacities please visit http://www.Christmasbycurrent.org or contact Jason Sowell at Jason@engagethecurrent.org or at 727-537-9082.
