RANCHO SANTA FE, CA, December 09, 2012 (Press-News.org) The non-profit organization, Athletes for Education (AFE), is conducting a toy drive through Wednesday, December 19, 2012, to benefit children at local hospitals and schools. AFE will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children up to the age of 14 at the following locations: Alliance Training Center, Otay Lakes Surgery Center, Jordan's Crazy Burgers and Hot Dogs and Valentino's Lounge in Chula Vista;
Sanfilippo's Italian Restaurant on 5th Avenue; Little Caesars in Rancho Bernardo; American Factory Wheel on Twain Avenue; Carlsbad Surgery Center in Carlsbad; Coast Surgery Center on Kearny Villa Road and Outpatient Surgery Center in La Jolla. According to AFE Board member and CEO of Surgery One, Scott Leggett, "The toys we collect will be distributed to underprivileged children at local schools and hospitals who would normally not receive gifts during the holidays. AFE is committed to bringing hope and brightening lives of children throughout the year, but particularly during this festive holiday season."
AFE is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization comprised of current and former professional athletes, entertainers, business/community leaders and volunteers. Now in its 17h year, AFE promotes children's health and wellness, teaches teamwork and discipline, builds self-confidence, imparts life skills and directly connects hard work with incentives and rewards. In addition, AFE's mentorship programs are designed to work in collaboration with schools and other non-profit organizations to teach life skills and team building exercises designed to improve literacy, school attendance, and excellent citizenship, as well as promote healthy lifestyles.
