LONDON, ENGLAND, December 10, 2012 (Press-News.org) While they may have only just received their GCSE results, many teenagers have begun thinking about their future prospects. And it seems as though most of them are feeling optimistic about their financial outlook.
According to a survey by JP Morgan Asset Management, many young people expect to own their houses by the age of 25, despite the fact that this is five years earlier than the national average. Additionally, 27% of teenagers surveyed believe that their first salary is likely to be about GBP22,600 or more.
Many students are also quite clear about the future jobs that they want, with JP Morgan's research revealing that healthcare still remains the career path of choice for girls. With 22% of girls choosing to pursue this profession, it currently remains more popular than careers in education and fashion.
On the other hand, boys tend to select IT jobs, with 16% of those surveyed expressing a fondness for this sector. This is followed by careers in engineering and healthcare. Furthermore, a total of 27% of teenagers hope to own their own company, although more boys would rather be their own boss than girls.
This long term plan for financial independence is very admirable, and can be seen as a result of the relative strength of the British economy. According to the Economist, unemployment currently stands at 8.1%, and while this is above the pre-depression level, this figure is still relatively low compared to the rest of the G7 countries.
Among the G7 countries, only Canada (which was largely untouched by the financial country) has a higher employment rate than Great Britain. The Economist also suggests that the slowly swelling job count has lifted aggregate incomes, and has helped to bolster consumer spending. In addition, inflation is beginning to subside and wages are certainly beginning to rise slowly.
With this picture of encouragement, reed.co.uk believes that teenagers have every right to be optimistic about their future prospects. With a slow and steady recovery hopefully on the way, it seems as though the young people of Britain will lead the charge for new jobs.

New drug cuts risk of deadly transplant side effect in half
2012-12-09
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A new class of drugs reduced the risk of patients contracting a serious and often deadly side effect of lifesaving bone marrow transplant treatments, according to a study from researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The study, the first to test this treatment in people, combined the drug vorinostat with standard medications given after transplant, resulting in 21 percent of patients developing graft-vs.-host disease compared to 42 percent of patients who typically develop this condition with standard medications alone.

Many of the participants who did well with the new drug, quizartinib or AC220, had ...
Studies challenge standards to improve treatment outcomes for patients with clotting disorders
2012-12-09
(ATLANTA, December 8, 2012) – Studies presented today at the 54th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) examine current treatment standards for patients with clotting disorders in an effort to improve outcomes. The studies evaluate long-held treatment standards and whether modifications in intensity and duration of therapy may offer equally effective outcomes while reducing toxicities and relapse rates.
Although significant advances have been made in delivering new and improved therapies for clotting disorders, treatment still presents challenges; ...
Pre-clinical data shows Angiocidin effective against leukemia
2012-12-09
Angiocidin, a novel tumor-inhibiting protein, has been shown to reduce acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells in vivo by almost two-thirds in pre-clinical experiments.
George P. Tuszynski, a professor of neuroscience in Temple University's School of Medicine who discovered Angiocidin, will present the findings during the American Society of Hematology's national meeting in Atlanta on Dec. 9.
AML causes certain white blood cells to stop maturing, resulting in their uncontrolled proliferation, which can lead to suppression of the immune system and often fatal secondary problems ...
