LONDON, ENGLAND, October 17, 2010 (Press-News.org) npower's successful green programme Climate Cops SOS has unveiled that Konnie Huq is to be its latest ambassador in a photo shoot recreating the iconic still from The Seven Year Itch.
Climate Cops SOS, now in its third year, is designed to motivate the UK's greenest teens into turning their passion for the environment into a positive campaign for their area.
Posing in a dress crafted entirely from pages of recycled newspapers, the Xtra Factor and former Blue Peter presenter gives environmental issues a real wow factor to inspire the 10 finalist schools to get creative with their own green projects.
As someone who has been involved with npower Climate Cops from the start, she is looking forward to encouraging the children to think innovatively about their own campaigns.
Konnie said:
"Young people can be really innovative about solving green issues in their area. The npower Climate Cops SOS campaign helps them to get their creative juices flowing in a fun and engaging way, trying to come up with ideas and solutions to environmental issues. I'm really looking forward to helping them with their campaigns - I have no doubt there'll be a few future geniuses to watch out for."
npower launched its search for the most passionate green teenagers back in April, where students were asked to identify an environmental issue which affects their community.
Now the 10 finalist schools will take part in an exclusive workshop hosted by Konnie at London Zoo, filled with innovative sessions to help inspire and motivate the teams as they venture forward with their green projects.
Each school will receive a starter fund of GBP1,000 from npower to help bring their project to life.
Clare McDougall, Education npower's head of community and education, said: "We're delighted that the Climate Cops SOS campaign helps to make the projects of the UK's greenest teens a reality.
"Konnie's dress was made over two weeks using more than a thousand pages of unwanted newspapers.
"It's an innovative take on recycling to inspire all kids to take on their own environmental projects."
Notes to Editors:
About the npower Climate Cops Programme:
In its fourth year, npower's Climate Cops programme inspires children aged 4-14 to make positive differences to the environment - showing them how to take action (both at home and school) to use energy more efficiently. npower provides a combination of 'green makeovers' for schools including free green energy audits, helping to implement tailor made green electricity efficiency measures to reduce their carbon footprint and helping children learn how to be greener.
npower's Climate Cops programme has won an array of prestigious awards including; The IVCA Clarion - Climate Change Communication Award, a 'Gold' Green Apple Award from the Green Organisation and the Environment Utility Industry Achievement Award. The awards are not-for-profit and recognise best practice in communicating the importance of CSR, sustainable development, social inclusion and ethical debate. And in this year alone, Climate Cops has been awarded a Marketing Week Award and a Big Tick from Business in the Community.

UC Riverside physicists pave the way for graphene-based spin computer
2010-10-15
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Physicists at the University of California, Riverside have taken an important step forward in developing a "spin computer" by successfully achieving "tunneling spin injection" into graphene.
An electron can be polarized to have a directional orientation, called "spin." This spin comes in two forms – electrons are said to be either "spin up" or "spin down" – and allows for more data storage than is possible with current electronics.
Spin computers, when developed, would utilize the electron's spin state to store and process vast amounts of information ...
