OSHA Campaigns For The Prevention Of Falls On Construction Sites

Workplace accidents are always a serious matter -- especially for those who work in the construction industry.

December 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) OSHA campaigns for the prevention of falls on construction sites

Workplace accidents are always a serious matter -- especially for those who work in the construction industry. And the most serious accidents that you will find in the construction business are caused by falls.

In fact, according to research conducted by U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, in 2010, 249 construction fatalities were the result of falls -- as well as another 10,000 workplace injuries. In order to help prevent these accidents, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Occupational Research Agenda have teamed up to educate construction workers about the dangers of falls and how they can stay safe on the job.

In their campaign, they point to three fundamental safety elements: planning, providing and training. This means that construction companies should plan their jobs ahead of time, keeping in mind what safety issues could arise and what equipment is needed to keep their workers safe; provide the appropriate equipment -- such as scaffolds and ladders -- in order to keep workers safe while they do the job; and train workers on how to use equipment so that they do not have an accident.

Common falls at construction sites and their causes

Some of the common falls that take place at construction sites include falls from scaffolds, ladders, cranes, rooftops and elevator shafts. In many cases, these falls are preventable.

There are several reasons that falls occur on construction sites, including the use of ladders that are not on level footing, scaffolds that are not properly set up and equipment that is defective.

Have you been injured on a construction site?

When there has been an accident on a construction site, the construction company can be held liable if it failed to provide a safe work environment for its employees. In addition, there are other people who may be liable for a construction accident, including architects and engineers who may have been careless with their designs of the construction project, and manufacturers of equipment that malfunctioned.

If you have been injured at your construction job, contact a personal injury attorney who can help you get the compensation you deserve. You may be able to receive compensation for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages. In addition, if a loved one has been killed on the job at a construction site, you may be able to sue the liable parties for wrongful death. By having the support of a qualified personal injury attorney, you can get the help that you need when navigating through the legal process.
