BRIGHTON, ENGLAND, December 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) Over 120 elderly people attended a Christmas get-together at Family Investments in West Street, Brighton on Saturday 8th December. They spent time writing Christmas cards, calling family and friends and celebrating the festive season with other older people.
Savings firm Family Investments organised the event in partnership with Age UK Brighton & Hove. "This is a fantastic event that offers a vital service for older people at Christmas time." said Family Investments Community Officer Faye Russell, "We clear one floor of our offices so people can come along and use the phones to call their relatives for free. Those attending also bring in their Christmas cards to write and Family Investments pays for the postage.
"The social side is a big part of the event" continued Faye, "a lot of the elderly that come along don't get to see many people throughout the year, so it's a great opportunity to get together with others and have a chat over a cup of tea and a mince pie. Staff at Family Investments are also on hand to help people write their cards or assist with looking up addresses and phone numbers."
Kat Pearce from Age UK Brighton and Hove said, "Older people really appreciate this festive open day. Family Investments has been hosting this event for Age UK Brighton & Hove for over 10 years and it's still going strong. Let's face it, postage and telephone calls are expensive, so it is very generous of Family Investments to welcome older people at this time of the year. It's wonderful."
The event also received support from other local businesses; The Holiday Inn supplied cupcakes, The Thistle, The Grand and The Hilton Brighton Metropole hotels all gave toiletries for those attending to take away. Westways Vending and County Office supplies provided chocolates and biscuits.
Family Investments has been based in Brighton for over 35 years. It has been running a programme of events and fund-raising activities to support local charities and community projects for twenty years. Over the course of 2012 staff at Family Investments committed over 1500 hours of time to helping projects within the local community.
