2013-01-05
LEESBURG, VA, January 05, 2013 (Press-News.org) Part history lesson, part motivational speech and part results-driven, this book wonderfully blends these elements along with the tapestry of the Black in America experience, to create practical messages and current-day realities for a more fulfilling life and career. Deborah L. Parker has robustly compiled Seven Guidelines in this book, warmly woven together as a trifecta of strength, soul, and spirit. Cemented in the use of the word 'know', these guidelines represent timeless advice based on knowledge, well-being, and faith narratives as a 'way station' for courageously launching forward. Warping time with the rhythmic voices and virtues of the 'old folks' to present day, Deborah lays out these success principles in a simple, yet riveting way. By acknowledging the painful parts of what's behind us, she movingly shapes those chronicles as foundational memories, using them as leverage to push through today's adversities.

Deborah further notes that it's time to recognize: our history and progress. 2013 stands to be a pivotal year in the African American story. On January 1, 1863, 150 years ago, the Emancipation Proclamation ended slavery. On August 28, 1963, 50 years ago, thousands rallied for the historic March on Washington, culminating with Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. April 4, 2013, marks the 45th anniversary of Dr. King's assassination in 1968, following his "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech the previous evening. These are celebratory events and chronicles to sear deeply into our risings and goings.

What do readers get here? Formatted in sections like a workbook, Parker virtually coaches you with her writing. You'll identify your unique DNA (delivered natural ability), strengths, motivators and resources, along with essential tools that support practical life and career solutions.

Deborah is the owner of The DPJ Training Group, a motivational speaking, leadership and personal development firm specializing in seminars and coaching on career, diversity, management and communications topics.
