Northern Virginia Custom Home Builder Is Tapped To Repair Local Winery From Super Storm Sandy Damage

EDINBURG, VA, January 17, 2013

When super storm Sandy hit the area, Philip Carter Winery took a hit. The storms powerful winds along with heavy rains caused much water damage to the winery. When Craftsman Construction was called in to assess the damage, the winery had shut down one tasting area due to buckled floors and peeling drywall. "It really was unsafe to keep this area open due to the trip hazards of the buckling floor said Mr. Carter, owner of Philip Carter Winery".

Craftsman Construction determined that the water intrusion was coming from the aging cupola and the poorly installed doors. Our first task was to seal the tasting room off from the rest of the winery so they could still stay open. Luckily during the winter months the extra capacity of this wing wasn't needed. A large dumpster was brought in and all the old flooring and drywall was torn out. New drywall was then installed and finished. Next came a new front door to better seal out the weather. Beautiful yellow pine flooring was installed and finished with several coats of polyurethane. A new tile floor was then installed by the front door.

Now came the dangerous task of repairing the cupola. Craftsman Construction brought in their 60' man lift to be able to reach the cupola. All the old siding and trim was removed from the cupola and the entire cupola was wrapped in rubber flashing to keep out any water that might get past the siding. All new board and batt siding was installed, along with all new exterior trim work. The entire project was then caulked and painted.
