The world-renowned Kendal Mountain Festival begins in the Lake District on November 18th this year.

2010-10-20
LAKE DISTRICT, ENGLAND, October 20, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Kendal Mountain Festival is set to attract hordes of mountaineers and outdoor sports enthusiasts to Lake District accommodation next month.

Running between November 18th and 21st, the event offers four days of film screenings, lectures, visual art displays and exhibitions amid some of the UK's most dramatic landscapes.

As the third largest festival of its kind in the world, the gathering traditionally attracts an audience of about 7,000 people and this year's edition should be no exception.

Confirmed speakers include professional climber Dave MacLeod, Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton and Daily Telegraph journalist Tarquin Cooper, who recently completed a 500-mile cross-country ski expedition in Norway.

The festival is based at Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre, which features a 190-seater auditorium and a digital projector.

Over 50 films are due to be screened during the event, showcasing the latest adventure documentaries and mountaineering features.

Ten prizes will be handed out to the film-makers, while the winner of the Boardman Tasker award for mountain literature will also be announced over the weekend.

Events are individually priced and start from GBP5, with a four-day film pass available for GBP46.

Visitors can also purchase an all-day film ticket for GBP15.50 on Friday, GBP19.50 on Saturday and GBP18 on Sunday.

For more information on this event, visit the Kendal Mountain Festival website or contact the organisers on 01539 722833.
