OMAHA, NE, January 18, 2013 (Press-News.org) Mary Carrick has been making her mark on the cabaret scene across the Midwest with her rich, soaring vocals and gift for storytelling. She and pianist/vocalist Todd Brooks bring "Love Notes: A Cabaret" to Valentine, Nebraska on Sunday, January 27, 2013. The 7 p.m. performance will be held in the auditorium of Valentine High School and is presented by the Valentine Area Arts Council.
The dynamic pair promises an intimate and delightful evening of song that blends classics from the Great American Songbook, lesser known gems, and their trademark touch of whimsy and humor. Their set list includes music by Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Stephen Sondheim, Hank Williams, Jason Robert Brown, Hoagy Carmichael, Amanda McBroom, Marvin Hamlisch, Cole Porter, and more.
"To me, there's nothing more romantic than a great love song and, as a performer, there's not a more perfect way to spend an evening than sharing great music with wonderful people," says Carrick. "Our show is full of nostalgic classics and also light hearted, toe-tapping tunes about romance but also other aspects of love in our lives. We'll laugh a little, too. Todd and I are looking forward to a memorable evening in Valentine."
Valentine High School is located at 431 North Green Street in Valentine, Nebraska. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Tickets may be purchased at Fashions clothing store or at the door. Support for the performance is provided by the Nebraska Arts Council.
Based in Omaha, Nebraska Carrick performs regularly with Opera Omaha and the Rose Theatre, one of the largest professional children's theatres in the country. She received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations for her recent performances at The Rose as "Mother Abbess" in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and "Sour Kangaroo" in SEUSSICAL: THE MUSICAL. She was most recently seen at The Rose as "Mrs. Murphy" in MADELINE'S CHRISTMAS. Carrick has also performed with the Omaha Symphony, Omaha Community Playhouse, and many other theatres across the Omaha region. She is a student of Tony Award-winning singer and actress, Betty Buckley.
Brooks is an accomplished director, music director, and arranger. Most recently he served as director and music director for ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, with the Papillion La-Vista Community Theater. Other recent projects include director of NEXT FALL with SNAP Productions and HAPPY DAYS: THE MUSICAL with the Chanticleer Theater.
Carrick and Brooks have been performing together since 2007 and are currently touring the Midwest region with several other cabaret shows, including ON MY WAY, SONGS WITH A TWIST OF LIME and LOVE NOTES. Most recently, they made their Chicago debut at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret. Both are active with theatres and arts organizations throughout the Omaha metropolitan area.
