Waste Industries Awards Educational Scholarship

Waste Industries announces the recipient of their annual scholarship.

2013-01-20
ROSEBORO, NC, January 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) Today Waste Industries USA, Inc. (WI) announces the recipient of the Waste Industries' Partnership for Education Scholarship, an annual grant awarded to graduating high school seniors of the Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church (SHMBC) congregation in Roseboro.

The Waste Industries' Partnership for Education Scholarship was established in 2010 and awards up to $2,000/year in scholarship money for SHMBC high school seniors meeting established criteria. For example, qualified applicants must have a 2.5 GPA upon graduating to apply and the scholarship is intended for education only - not for school supplies and clothing. This scholarship is another example of the WI's commitment to education and the communities in which it operates.

"Through a partnership with the Snow Hill Missionary Baptist Church, we continue to support education and youth development," says Thomas Winstead, regional manager for Waste Industries. "We are an active part of the communities we serve, and we're proud to develop programs that encourage young people to do well in school and set a standard of corporate responsibility that other companies might follow," added Winstead.

Catherina Ann Muse, a Lakewood High School graduate, is this year's recipient. Muse graduated in the top five of her class with a 3.7 GPA and served as president of the Future Teachers of America Club, vice president of the Spanish Club and co-editor of her class yearbook. Catherine, daughter of Arlene Smith, is currently a freshman at East Carolina University planning to major in Psychology and minor in Forensics. Ultimately, Miss Muse wants to become a forensic psychologist and diagnose personality disorders in teens.
