MIAMI, FL, January 23, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Greater Miami Youth Symphony Chamber Ensembles will perform at the Friendship Circle of Miami's Walking 4 Friendship, on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 11:00am to support and raise funds for children with disabilities and special needs in our community. Registration begins at 9:00am followed by the opening ceremonies at 9:30am, and the walk starts 10:00 am. There are over 700 people expected at this wonderful, free of charge community carnival at 8700 SW 112 Street (on the corner of Galloway and Killian Dr.) Make sure to stop by and be a part of this incredible cause. The streets will shut down from 10:00am to 1:00pm to allow participants to enjoy the event.
On February 15, 2013 the GMYS Symphony Orchestra & Dublin Youth Symphony will perform together at Robert Morgan Educational Center at 8:00pm. The GMYS Concert Orchestra will also perform the jig from Holst's St. Pauls Suite. Dublin Symphony Orchestra will perform the Sleeping Beauty Suite, and for the collaboration, the Dublin and GMYS Symphony Orchestras will play Marquez's Danzon No. 2 and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. The Dublin Youth Orchestras Association, run by Wendy Arlow, is a non-profit organization and registered charity serving over 400 children divided into four orchestras. DSO is run entirely by the voluntary commitment of parents of present and past members of the orchestras.
The annual GMYS Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition will be held at the Deering Estate at Cutler on February 23, 2013 at 9:30am. Students will perform a concerto of their choice for a panel of judges. Each winner of the competition will perform his or her concerto at the GMYS Season Finale Concert on May 5, 2013.
The Greater Miami Youth Symphony is an independent six-level orchestra program dedicated to training young musicians between 5 and 18 years of age. In addition to the large ensembles, GMYS offers students a chance to participate in chamber music ensembles. Our students get the chance to participate in spectacular outreach event such as Walking 4 Friendship. One of our most known programs is our Preparatory Division through which we serve over 400 beginning-level musicians with free group instruction and instruments. Conceived as a complementary facet to music instruction in the schools, GMYS has continuously succeeded in presenting high caliber performances to South Florida audiences.
