LANSING, MI, January 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) The e-commerce website Swimtown Pool Supplies is offering the first annual Swimtown Educational Scholarship, worth $1,000, to a student with an interest in technology or intention to study technology in college.
Swimtown Pool Supplies, an online source for swimming pool and spa supplies and accessories, hopes the scholarship will encourage students to develop skills in areas such as e-commerce, online marketing, and information technology. Opportunities in these career fields are growing not just in Michigan, but nationwide.
"As a company that relies so heavily on the internet for our success, we know the importance of grooming tomorrow's technology leaders," said Swimtown Pool Supplies co-owner Adam Henige.
"And, as a Michigan company, we've seen the manufacturing-based economy evolve and expand to a more diverse, tech-based economy. The Lansing Area, where we're headquartered, recently ranked 6th in the nation for metro area tech job growth and we wanted to help continue that development with our scholarship opportunity."
Swimtown Pool Supplies co-owner Joe Ford also recognizes the importance of placing a high degree of emphasis on college education and assisting students with the rising cost of tuition and other expenses.
"We hope this scholarship can do that for a deserving student," he said.
Application instructions and eligibility requirements for the Swimtown Educational Scholarship can be found on the Swimtown Pool Supplies website. Deadline for application is April 30, and the winner will be announced May 20.
