CHESTERFIELD, MO, February 01, 2013 (Press-News.org) To further improve patient care at Associates in Dermatology, Drs. James Donnelly, Richard Bell and Amy Ney, dermatologists in St. Louis and Chesterfield, are pleased to announce the availability of a new, advanced therapy-Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). With PDT, Associates in Dermatology provides improved treatment for actinic keratosis and facial rejuvenation. Additionally, Associates in Dermatology provide Narrow band UVB phototherapy for psoriasis, and Botox and Dermal Fillers (Juvederm in Chesterfield).
"We are committed to excellence in the field of dermatology, which is why we remain up-to-date with advancements in treatment and technology. With the availability of laser therapy, we can further improve the care of our patients' symptoms all under one roof. We look forward to continuing to treat our patients with the best care possible," said Dr. James Donnelly, St. Louis dermatologist.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is used for the treatment of actinic keratosis and facial rejuvenation, such as rosacea in St. Louis and Chesterfield. PDT is a special treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan activated with the correct wavelength of light. Patients who have severely sun-damaged skin manifested by actinic keratosis, texture, and tone changes including mottled pigmentation and skin laxity, will likely see excellent results. Patients may also see improvement of large pores and pitted acne scars.
To achieve maximum improvement of pre-cancerous sun damage, skin tone and texture, a series of 2-3 treatments 2-4 weeks apart is most effective. Some patients are happy with one treatment, while more treatments can be done at periodic intervals in the future to maintain the rejuvenated appearance of a patient's skin. Drs. James Donnelly, Richard Bell and Amy Ney, St. Louis, MO dermatologists, will work with their patients to create the best treatment plan with PDT.
Additionally, Associates in Dermatology, dermatologists in St. Louis, MO, is also offering the use of Narrowband UVB Phototherapy in the treatment of psoriasis. Narrowband UVB has been proven to clear psoriasis faster and produces longer remissions than broadband UVB. It also may be effective with fewer treatments per week than broadband UVB. During UVB treatment, a patient's psoriasis may temporarily worsen before improving. The skin may redden and itch from exposure to the UVB light. To avoid further irritation, the amount of UVB administered may need to be reduced. Occasionally, temporary flares occur with low-level doses of UVB, and tend to resolve with continued treatment.
Patients suffering from actinic keratosis and psoriasis are encouraged to visit Associates in Dermatology, dermatologists in Chesterfield, MO, for further diagnosis and treatment planning. With the availability of these new procedures, patients can find relief from their symptoms. For more information, patients can visit the website for Associates in Dermatology, Chesterfield, MO dermatologists, at http://www.stlderm.com.
About Associates in Dermatology: Since 1991, Associates in Dermatology has provided quality dermatological services to West St. Louis County and surrounding areas. In addition to their main Chesterfield office at St. Luke's Hospital, Associates in Dermatology see patients at their satellite offices in Sullivan and St. Genevieve, Missouri, as well as Staunton, Illinois. A physician rather than a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant sees all patients. With three dermatologists, wait times for both new and established patients are shorter than with many other practices, which further proves why Associates in Dermatology is the preferred choice for dermatological care. On staff at Associates in Dermatology are Drs. James Donnelly, Richard Bell and Amy Ney, Chesterfield dermatologists. Dr. Donnelly received his Doctorate of Medicine from Washington University in St. Louis, and received training in internal medicine at the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, and completed his dermatology residency at Barnes Jewish Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in Dermatology during his final year. Dr. Bell also received his Doctorate of Medicine from Washington University in St. Louis and received training in internal medicine at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Dr. Ney reviewed her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Virginia and completed an internship in internal medicine followed by a dermatology residency at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital, serving as chief resident in her final year.
