Eichholz Law Firm Comments on Wrongful Death Lawsuit Regarding GranuFlo

Eichholz Law Firm reacts to the wrongful death lawsuit that has been filed against the makers of GranuFlo.

PHILADELPHIA, PA, February 05, 2013

Injury Lawyer News has released an update on one of the lawsuits being brought up against Fresenius Medical Care as a result of personal injury occurring due to the use of GranuFlo, one of the pharmaceutical products that Fresenius Medical Care produces. The Eichholz Law Firm, which specializes in representing clients engaged in personal injury and wrongful death cases, encourages individuals who have been adversely affected by GranuFlo and other dangerous drugs to contact legal representation immediately.

The article explains that the latest wrongful death case against Fresenius Medical Care has been filed by a man whose wife endured two heart attacks and died after using GranuFlo. This particular drug is used during dialysis and the article explains that, due to the fact that it contains acetate, it can create increased bicarbonate levels. This can lead to metabolic alkalosis if not addressed properly and, ultimately, can result in several fatal conditions, including a heart attack. The article explains: "The lawsuit states that the plaintiff's wife, Boni Sue Rodriguez, underwent dialysis with GranuFlo between December 2009 and December 2011. She allegedly experienced a bicarbonate overdose due to use of GranuFlo during dialysis treatments, and this excess bicarbonate caused her to have a heart attack in January 2011, followed by a second heart attack 11 months later which caused her death on December 5, 2011. The plaintiff claims that if Fresenius had properly warned doctors and patients of the risks of GranuFlo, his wife's death could have been prevented."

Fresenius Medical Care did know of the risk involved with the use of GranuFlo, as it sent out an internal warning regarding this issue to the dialysis clinics that it owns; however, the company did not send this warning to doctors who were using the product in clinics not operated by the company. As such, the patients who underwent dialysis in these clinics were put at risk. GranuFlo has since been recalled, but legal professionals are still uncovering instances of lasting damage caused by the drug.

The legal professionals at Eichholz Law Firm are working to protect clients against this and other dangerous drugs. As such, the firm demands that the hazards associated with GranuFlo are recognized and addressed and encourages individuals who have been harmfully impacted by this drug to seek legal assistance in protecting their rights.
