SAN DIEGO, CA, October 22, 2010

Tony Giasson, Vice President Operations of Calgary's MaXfield Inc, talked to Manufacturing Digital on what it takes to be one of the industry leaders in building oil and gas field machinery. "We have a really broad base of customers," Giasson said. "We're kind of a one stop shopping operation."

While MaXfield is a relative newcomer, its employees and clients have worked with each other for years. That stability is carried though the three step model "people, passion and perseverance." "I think what differentiates us is that all of our employees are empowered to ensure that the customer gets the best service they can possibly get," Giasson said. "We think that our strength is our people, so while we have to invest on machinery. If our people aren't trained properly, that would be a waste."

The company established a gainsharing plan for employees, while weekly tool box meetings, extensive training, orientation classes and risk assessment classes are also organized. This strength allowed for a $4 million expansion in 2009 with an additional 36,000 square foot facility in Crossfield, Alberta. Despite the worldwide economic crisis, MaXfield only lost a fraction of annual percentages.
