WASHINGTON, DC, February 17, 2013 (Press-News.org) Specialty Hospital of Washington-Hadley is transforming care and patient safety on hospital units with evidence based interventions to improve patient safety culture and practice. "We are pleased at the great work by our staff regarding the use of pre- and post-catheterization assessments to gauge proper catheter use and to monitor early signs of infection," said Stephanie Kahn Director of Quality and Performance Improvement at Specialty Hospital of Washington-Hadley. Based on recent studies from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) found that about one-fourth of all hospitalized patients have a urinary catheter placed during their hospital stay. Infections that can result from urinary catheters are the most common type of hospital-acquired infection in U.S. hospitals.
The Joint Commissions Resource's (JCR) Hospital Engagement Network is part of the Partnership for Patients program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The goal of the program is to provide better care at lower costs, and reduce readmissions by 20% and reduce inpatient harms by 40%.
