Grammy Award Winning Arranger Nan Schwartz Contributes Orchestrations for Oscar Nominated Scores ARGO and LIFE OF PI

Schwartz receives Grammy-nomination "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist" for "Wild is the Wind" performed by Whitney Kaufman and the London Symphony Orchestra.

2013-02-17
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, February 17, 2013 (Press-News.org) Grammy award winning arranger/composer Nan Schwartz contributed orchestrations to two Oscar nominated film scores: ARGO and LIFE OF PI. The scores for ARGO won the Satellite Award, Life of Pi won the Golden Globe and both scores are Academy Award nominated. Nan Schwartz was nominated this year for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist for "Wild is the Wind" performed by Whitney Kaufman and the London Symphony Orchestra.

For ARGO, film composer Alexandre Desplat combined Iranian influences with classic orchestration. He turned to colleague Nan Schwartz, who has previously worked with him on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Oscar nominated The Curious Case of Benjamin Button among other projects. LIFE OF PI marks her first collaboration with the film's composer Mychael Danna.

Nan Schwartz's talents as an arranger are displayed on trumpeter Arturo Sandoval's latest CD, "Dear Diz," a three-time Latin Grammy winner (2012) and a three-time Grammy nominee this year. In addition, Schwartz recently returned from Berlin where she conducted her arrangements for European superstar/musician Till Bronner.

A pioneer female composer, Nan Schwartz has garnered accolades for her work. Her musical talents can be heard in all genres, from numerous television series, jazz albums, concert works to film scores. In 2009, she received a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist for "Here's That Rainy Day" performed by Natalie Cole. Other Grammy nominations include her arrangements on John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra's Night and Day: Celebrate Sinatra. As a composer, Schwartz is best known for scoring the entire television series In the Heat of the Night. Other awards include seven Emmy award nominations, including an unprecedented three in one year. Additionally, Nan Schwartz has created demo recordings based on the best seller E.L. James Fifty Shades of Gray. She hopes her musical interpretation earns her consideration as the composer for the upcoming film.
