Seniors and Children Get a Helping Hand from Old Colony Elder Services

Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), a private, non-profit agency designated as an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP)

BROCKTON, MA, February 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) located in Brockton, helped a number of seniors and others in need this holiday season.

OCES held a holiday food drive among their staff to help support Father Bills & Mainspring homeless shelter of Brockton, which has experienced a marked increase in young adults and veterans seeking assistance. OCES collected several boxes of food and donated them to Father Bills & Mainspring. Each year, OCES holds a holiday food drive for a different organization in an effort to provide support to those most in need. Last year, OCES' food drive collections were donated to The Charity Guild food pantry and thrift shop located on Main Street in Brockton.
 
The staff at OCES also gave back to the community's youth by participating in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program. OCES staff members selected gift tags, which indicated whether the gift was for a boy or a girl, and then they fulfilled children's holiday wishes by purchasing those gifts. OCES provided more than 35 gifts to children in the community.

Founded in 1974, OCES serves 20 towns in Plymouth County as well as Avon, Easton and Stoughton. OCES is a private, non-profit organization designated as one of 27 Aging Services Access Points (ASAPs) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The organization's mission is to support the independence and dignity of elders and individuals with disabilities by providing essential information and services that promote healthy and safe living.
