Beverly Hills Doctor "Delights" Bakersfield Residents With Unique Pain Treatment

Delight Medical & Wellness Center, a Beverly Hills medical practice renowned for helping Hollywood A-listers treat chronic pain using prolotherapy, has brought their unique brand of pain treatment to Bakersfield.

2013-02-21
BAKERSFIELD, CA, February 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) Delight Medical & Wellness Center, a Beverly Hills medical practice renowned for helping Hollywood A-listers treat chronic pain using prolotherapy, has brought their unique brand of pain treatment to Bakersfield.

"We noticed an influx of new patients in our Beverly Hills office were actually commuting from Kern County," said Dr. Payam Kerendian, head physician and medical director of Delight Medical & Wellness Center. "It [Bakersfield] was just a market we could no longer continue to ignore. For us, it's proof that one need not be a movie star or professional athlete to appreciate the wonders of prolotherapy."

Prolotherapy, (short for proliferation therapy), is a non-surgical procedure for stimulating natural strengthening and healing of ligaments and tendons. Damage or inadequate healing from previous injury causes instability. This instability usually translates into what most people call pain. With prolotherapy, Dr. Kerendian is able to stimulate a local inflammatory process around the damaged ligaments and tendons which increases the blood and nutrient supply to areas of pain, allowing the tissues to repair themselves naturally.

It is this all-natural approach to treating pain that has Delight Medical's Bakersfield patients raving. One such patient is Mark Demucha of North Bakersfield. After suffering a severe accident while serving in the army, Demucha was rendered immobile. The lack of activity resulted in atrophy and arthritis in both knees. "I went to many different types of doctors--some that recommended knee replacement surgery. I'm too young to even consider that option."

While researching less invasive options to dealing with his severe arthritis, Demucha found Delight Medical. "Dr. K gave me a series of prolotherapy injections over the course of about six months. During that period I was able to regain almost all of the mobility I had lost prior to the accident. I was able to go out and train with the police academy and play sports I hadn't played since before my injury."

Delight's expansion to Bakersfield is part of a pilot program that Dr. Kerendian says is aimed at satisfying a serious need in Kern County. "Until now, Bakersfield residents didn't have access to this level of treatment. Prolotherapy treatment in Kern County simply didn't exist."

Currently Delight's pilot program brings Kerendian and his staff to Bakersfield each Friday.

Whether or not the pilot program becomes permanent is completely up to the residents of Bakersfield says Kerendian. "Prolotherapy is different from other procedures involving steroids or the prescription of narcotics that simply mask pain. Most pain sufferers like a quick fix. Prolotherapy takes longer but actually cures the underlying problem. As more and more Bakersfield residents continue to be willing to take a more measured approach to pain management, we're definitely open to adding additional days each month."
