RALEIGH, NC, February 22, 2013 (Press-News.org) Crystal Suazo, standing president of the Raleigh chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants (http://www.afwa.org) and partner of Vaco Raleigh (http://www.vaco.com/raleigh), has announced that the American Society of Women Accountants has undergone a rebranding and changed its name to Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance. Along with the renaming, the group has added a new tagline of "Connect. Advance. Lead." Both moves occurred in order to broaden the visibility of the organization on a national level.
In October 2012, the organization's members made a groundbreaking decision for the future of the organization by voting for a name change. With a more progressive name and branding, the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance modernizes its approach to affect change on the industry.
A 2011 Catalyst study found that half of newly hired accounting graduates at CPA firms and 40 percent of all CPAs were women. However, women comprised just 21percent of all partners at firms. Similarly, according to the 2011 Catalyst Census of Women Executive Officers and Top Earners, which counts the number of women in upper management in Fortune 500 companies, women make up only 18.4 percent of executive officers in the finance and insurance industries. The Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance identifies this gap as a major problem in the accounting and finance industry that needs to be remedied. By forming national connections with fellow professional association members, Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance members achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and contribute to the future development of the accounting and finance industry.
Suazo's firm, Vaco Raleigh, maintains a strong presence on the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance board. Beth Shandley, senior accounting and finance recruiter, serves as the standing treasurer and Cristen Vaughn, recruiter, is the treasurer-elect.
QUOTES:
"By rebranding our name and contemporizing the appeal of the organization, we feel that we will attract a new generation of women accounting and finance professionals," said Suazo. "Women who participate in the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance will be equipped with the resources and guidance they need to advance and become leaders within their respective fields."
