SANTA MONICA, CA, February 27, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Orange County, California law firm of Russell & Lazarus, APC, managed by Christopher E. Russell, Attorney at Law, believes strongly in giving back to the community, and not just through helping injured accident victims fight for their legal rights. This past weekend, February 22nd- 24th, Russell & Lazarus legal assistants Mandy Culler and Dani Glidden spent three days as youth camp counselors for children with Type 1 diabetes and their families.
The retreat was held at the UCLA Conference Center in Lake Arrowhead and featured workshops led by pediatric endocrine doctors, nurses, dietitians, and educators, all of whom specialized in the dynamics of families with diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes, is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. In Type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin, which is a hormone produced in the pancreas.
Mandy and Dani looked forward to the experience from the beginning. According to Mandy, "it is a super cool retreat. We play games, do activities and teach the kids how to live a healthy life with diabetes, including a cooking class that teaches them how to make healthy foods to control their diabetes." As the many individuals who suffer from diabetes and their loved ones who care for them know, diet is a crucial part of living a healthy lifestyle with diabetes.
Lawyer Christopher E. Russell is an active participant in the Southern California community and encourages his employees to contribute to charities and organizations of their choosing. Christopher was very pleased that two of his legal assistants donated their time to such a worthy cause this weekend and looks forward to continuing to make a difference in the Southern California community.
