OMAHA, NE, March 01, 2013 (Press-News.org) Mary Carrick, professional cabaret singer, vocalist, and actress, received the 2013 Omaha Entertainment & Arts Award (OEA) for Best Supporting Actress - Musical. The annual OEA Awards took place Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Hilton Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Carrick was recognized for her role of "Sour Kangaroo" in the Rose Theater's 2012 production of "Seussical: The Musical".
The Rose Theater, located in Omaha, is among the nation's largest professional children's theaters. The Omaha Entertainment Awards, Inc. seeks to enhance the community by planning and producing an annual awards event that uniquely recognizes the performing arts, visual arts and live music of the Omaha area.
Artists are nominated by public vote with the final slate of nominees determined by a panel comprised of respected arts professionals. Final winners are determined by the OEA Academy, comprised of arts professionals and journalists who vote in their respective specialties of visual arts, performing arts, and music.
Carrick performs regularly with Opera Omaha and the Rose Theatre. Most recently she appeared at The Rose as "Mrs. Murphy" in "Madeline's Christmas" and received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations for her performance at The Rose as "Mother Abbess" in "The Sound of Music". Her next appearance will be as a featured soloist in the annual Omaha Press Club Show at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Carrick has also performed with the Omaha Symphony, Omaha Community Playhouse, and many other theatres across the Omaha region. She is currently touring the Midwest with several cabaret shows, including "On My Way", "Songs with a Twist of Lime", and "Love Notes". She made her Chicago cabaret debut at Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret in October 2012 and received the Outstanding Cabaret Award from the Omaha Theatre Arts Guild in 2008. Mary is a Touring Artist with the Nebraska Arts Council.
