SAN DIEGO, CA, March 06, 2013 (Press-News.org) Teachers, day care workers, educators and all school staff are invited to bring their tax information into a Liberty Tax Service office during "Educator Appreciation Days." The company is saluting area teachers, all school employees, including bus drivers, by offering them free tax preparation. This offer is in effect for new customers from February 25th - March 3rd at Liberty Tax in Hillcrest, Mission Hills, North Park and Down town San Diego.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act extends (through the end of 2013) the teacher's classroom expense deduction. The deduction, which expired after 2011, allows eligible educators who spend their own money on classroom supplies to deduct (above-the-line) qualified expenses up to $250 paid out-of-pocket during the year. Eligible educators are considered as kindergarten through grade 12 teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide who works at least 900 hours in either a public or private school. The adjustment for these expenses, of no more than $250, can be claimed whether or not the taxpayer can itemize.
