Crystal Cove Alliance Announces 'Springtime Magic' to Benefit Crystal Cove State Park

Event captures Crystal Cove's natural beauty through art and raises critical funds to help preserve it

2013-03-10
TUSTIN, CA, March 10, 2013 (Press-News.org) More than two dozen acclaimed artists will have their work displayed publicly as Crystal Cove Alliance (CCA), the official nonprofit partner of Crystal Cove State Park, proudly brings Springtime Magic to the majestic beachfront property from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 16 and 17. Each year, local artists apply to be part of CCA's Fine Art Program. A group of 30 is selected to exhibit paintings depicting the park's inspirational landscapes and sell them as part of the fundraising efforts for CCA.

"Painting a beautiful natural setting preserves it forever, and Springtime Magic truly is a unique and inspirational event since preservation of this natural wonder is the very mission of CCA," said Carol Robinson, Interpretive Store Manager at Crystal Cove State Park. "We hope art lovers from throughout Orange County will find enjoyment in seeing the striking park in person and on numerous canvases."

Every sale during the free weekend event will benefit the unique cultural and historical heritage of Crystal Cove, which maintains more than a century of ties to the art world. The earliest recorded image of the area is a 1912 painting by William Wendt. Springtime Magic continues the tradition of painting the sweeping natural environment of Crystal Cove.

The artists for Springtime Magic 2013 are Michael Alten, Kirsten Anderson, Jacobus Baas, Gavin Brooks, John Budicin, Judith Cameron, Val Carson, Katie Costello, Kevin Davidson, Bruce Sanford Day, Kay Flierl, Fred Hope, Jeff Horn, Debra Huse, Margaret Jamison, Steve Kell, Richard Kent, Greg LaRock, Eileen McCullough, Alan Nowell, Michael Obermeyer, Pam Panattoni, April Raber, Richard Rice, Jeff Sewell, Kim Van Der Hoek, Jack Wang, Steve Wang, John White and Jim Wodark.

The art exhibit will be held in the Education Commons, located in the Historic District of Crystal Cove State Park. Parking is available for $15 in the LosTrancos parking lot and is waived for those dining at The Beachcomber Cafe, located directly adjacent to the show.

Crystal Cove Alliance
Crystal Cove Alliance (CCA), the official nonprofit partner of Crystal Cove State Park, is dedicated to preserving the cultural, natural and historic resources of Crystal Cove. Founded in 1999 by Laura Davick to stop a planned luxury resort from overtaking the area, CCA rescued the historic site and initiated one of the most successful public-private partnership models in the history of the California State Park system.

Today, CCA has expanded its focus to include all 3.2 miles of pristine coastline, more than 3,700 acres of backcountry habitat and 1,100 acres offshore in the Underwater Park. CCA has turned Crystal Cove into a laboratory for developing innovative educational programs and experiences that promote science and environmental literacy to more than 1.5 million visitors and students each year. CCA's conservation work insures access by a range of recreational enthusiasts while maintaining protection of critical habitat and protecting endangered and threatened species.

The partnership between Crystal Cove State Park and the Crystal Cove Alliance has led to the renovation of 29 historic beachfront cottages now open for overnight stays, as well as historic education programs designed for the public. CCA is proud of the park receiving the prestigious 2007 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation. A leader in fundraising, restoration, education and concession services, CCA is devoted to creating a sustainable future for Crystal Cove. Seventeen historic cottages remain to be restored.
