Center for Safe Schools and Communities Announces The 2013 June Conference - Denver, CO

The Center for Safe Schools and Communities is sponsoring an International Conference June 5th through June 7th in Denver, CO.

2013-03-12
DENVER, CO, March 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Center for Safe Schools and Communities is a non-profit organization that provides training, conferences and materials to at risk students and their families. The Center has developed an evidence based social competence program called Peace 4 Kids. The program trains students in the 4 components of empathy, anger management, social skills and character education/ethics. The Center for Safe Schools and Communities is based in Broomfield Colorado.

The Center for Safe Schools and Communities is sponsoring an International Conference featuring Evidenced Based Social Emotional Learning, A.R.T. (Aggression Replacement Training), Peace Curriculum, Parent Empowerment, Character Education, Emotional Intelligence and Social Skills and Classroom Discipline. The Conference is June 5th through 7th at the Holiday Inn, Denver, CO. A Pre-Conference on Bullying Stops with Me will be offered on June 5, 2012.

Dr. Sara Salmon, Ph.D. is an International Social Competence Trainer, Board Member of the PREPSEC, which is the international Social Competence Organization, Super Nanny in Jefferson County, CO and Grant Writer. Dr. Salmon has trained in Japan, Finland, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Canada and Denmark.

Dr. Salmon worked closely with Dr. Arnold Goldstein in enhancing the Aggression Replacement Training Model. She has since authored the Peace Social Intelligence Curriculum, and written the Empathy chapter in the new Prepare Curriculum to be published by Research Press in the fall of 2013.

"We are excited to be hosting our 11th annual conference. We have a great list of presenters and experts available to attendees this June." Explains Dr. Sara Salmon, Ph.D. founder of the Center for Safe Schools and Communities. "Our mission is to make these new techniques available to all school districts in the US and over sees."

Their June, 2013 Conference - "International Social Competency In-Motion - A Practitioners Meet Up" is scheduled for June 5 - 7, 2013 at the Holiday Inn in Denver, CO.

Peace 4 Kids is based on an international aggression replacement model originally developed by the late Arnold P. Goldstein in the 1990's specifically for juvenile offenders. Peace 4 Kids is used throughout the US (11 states and growing) as well as Poland, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Belize, Finland and Canada.

Peace 4 Kids has been nominated by Casel as one of the top social intelligence programs in the country. Research Press will be publishing a portion of the Peace 4 Kids curriculum in the New Prepare edition.

Peace4Kids is a specific social emotional learning program that helps socialize aggressive students so they are academically and socially successful. Parts of the program are now being used for all students and has been shown to reduce violence in schools, increase academic success and transform the school culture.

The program is well researched and includes a curriculum comprised of lessons in empathy, anger control, social skills and character education. Peace4Kids includes a parent/family component, discipline system, student activities, and Restorative Justice. Peace4Kids is being used in many states across the country as well as in European and Scandinavian countries.

The purpose of the conference is to usher specialists from model programs here in the US and other nations to collaborate ideas to successfully utilize Social Emotional Learning strategies. This will both prevent violence and rehabilitate students who are currently exhibiting aggression. Current studies indicate that SEL programs are necessary for academic success.

The conference will feature key note addresses from experts in the field of Social Emotional Learning as well as allowing presenters from several states and countries to exhibit a variety of successful programs.

We will be exploring new concepts to aid children and parents as well as enjoying various excursions to the beautiful "Mile-High" City of Denver and the breath-taking mountains.
An activity will be planned each night of the conference as well as a trip to the hot springs on Saturday.

College Credit is available for all sessions from Adams State College, CO. Some school districts offer re-certification credit.
