VANCOUVER, WA, March 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) BRAVE Day (Breast Restoration AdVocacy Education Day) is Thursday March 21st, 2013 and is the official national day to emphasize the importance of Breast Reconstruction Rights through a series of educational and advocacy events in Oregon and Washington State. Brave Day is about you and your rights. Did you know 1 out of every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 1 in 6 if you count DCIS (the earliest stage of the disease)? The 5-year survival rate for early-stage, localized breast cancer is 98 percent. Survival is only the first part of the healing process. To truly thrive you have to treat the whole person: body, mind and spirit! To do that, you need to know exactly what resources are available and, more importantly, how to access resources.
Are you asking yourself - How can I participate if I live in another city?
Here are 5 easy ways:
1- Wear Pink on Thursday March 21st 2013
2- Post your Pink Pictures to our Facebook
3- Request Know Your Rights Bookmarks and cards from kim@pinklemonadeproject.org to share with your community and workplace
4- Have your own Brave Day Events in your town or city
5- Start an e-mail, facebook, and/or Twitter (#BRAVEDAY #THEPINKLEMONADEPROJECT) campaign to educate your friends and community on their rights

A recent breast cancer reconstruction patient expressed why breast reconstruction was important to her, "To start with, it makes the woman feel whole. I had no idea what I was getting into when I learned I had breast cancer. Being able to have reconstruction has allowed me to still feel like a woman and feel like even though I had breast cancer, I do not need to be reminded of it every day. I couldn't imagine how my self-esteem would have been affected if I had not had reconstruction. It seems a bit inhumane to not have that option. I wonder how a man would feel if certain body parts of his were removed without reconstruction given similar circumstances. Every woman should have a choice of reconstruction."

The Pink Lemonade Project - The Pink Lemonade Project's mission is to provide breast cancer survivors and their families a pathway of hope, healing, and happiness through education and an empowering community. In tireless pursuit of that goal, each member of the largely volunteer organization assists to provide information on programs and services related to breast health, based on the feedback and needs of breast cancer survivors.
Founded in 2010 by Allen and Cassie Gabriel, PLP was created to provide critical support to patients who struggled with the many emotional and psychological aspects of breast cancer diagnosis and recovery. Even within the breast cancer community itself, Allen and Cassie saw a noticeable lack of information regarding the age someone should get a mammogram (with or without a history of breast cancer), as well as the rights and options available for restoration after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
Initially providing a retreat for 14 brave women, PLP expanded in 2011 with the offering of a couples program. Today they continue to host a range of healing retreats as well as breast restoration advocacy and the Pink Pathways program, in collaboration with Baraka Institute: Coach Training World
