RICHMOND, VA, March 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society is hosting the annual Walk MS: Richmond fundraising event this Saturday, March 23rd from 9am to 1pm at 4200 Innslake Drive Glen Allen, Virginia. Participants can choose to walk either a one or three mile route and finish with a celebration lunch, music, moon bounce, ultimate gaming trailer and over 20 vendors sharing popular products and services. Walk MS is the rallying point of the MS movement, bringing the community together to raise funds and celebrate hope for the future.
"In 2012 Walk MS Richmond was able to raise over $200,000," said Sherri Ellis, President of the Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society. "This year we plan to break that number while also creating some new, fun and unique ways for the community to spread the word about MS."
Those fun and unique activities at Saturday's Walk MS include having walkers come dressed in their wackiest costumes, which will actually play an important role in a surprise activity the Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society has planned. Here's a hint: it involves about 30 seconds of dancing and will be visible on YouTube the following week.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease the destroys connections, often times disabling the central nervous system and causing symptoms like numbness, tingling, blindness and paralysis. The advancement, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS.
Interested parties can register and raise funds for Walk MS Richmond as an individual, team, or virtual walker on IWalkForMS.org. The Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society also has Walk MS events planned in 2013 for Kilmarnock (4/20), Fredericksburg (4/20), Tappahannock (September) and Petersburg (October).
