CARY, NC, March 22, 2013 (Press-News.org) Brian Mackey, PhD, lead psychologist of Families in Transition at 3-C Family Services in Cary has spent over ten years as a clinical psychologist working with children and teenagers to repair the trauma of divorce. For the past four years he has dedicated much of his time to helping limit the trauma of divorce on children by participating in and promoting the collaborative divorce method. His extensive experience was brought to bear in helping to author the North Carolina Guide to Collaborative Divorce Proceedings.
North Carolina Family Law provides for a legal alternative to divorce court proceedings called Collaborative Law Proceedings. Mackey remarks, "As a mental health professional, I have spent the better part of my career helping to repair the damage and mistrust caused by divorce. Collaborative law proceedings that incorporate mental health professionals specifically trained in the collaborative divorce method give families the very best opportunity for a healthy, happy future in two households."
Mackey, and the Springfield Collaborative Divorce law firm, co-authored the guide to serve as a tool to educate North Carolina couples considering separation or divorce in North Carolina as well as to serve as an aide for professionals who often provide guidance to these couples including lawyers, therapists, CPAs, financial planners, and clergy. "If you or your spouse is considering separation, ask an experienced collaborative divorce attorney if the collaborative divorce method is appropriate for your family circumstances. It will be a gift to your children if you can avoid the conflict and tension generated by court proceedings." Mackey comments.
In helping to author the North Carolina Guide to Collaborative Divorce Proceedings, Mackey worked with Mark Springfield and Kerry Burleigh of the Springfield Collaborative Divorce law firm, as well as financial specialist Michael Kothakota, CFA, CDFA with WolfBridge Financial.
