Professional Boxing Camp Announces Openings

Former Pro Boxer Zeke Wilson has announced available openings in his training camp for beginners and experienced prizefighters in all weight classes. Openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

2013-03-24
NORTH BINGHAM, PA, March 24, 2013 (Press-News.org) Former Pro Boxer Zeke Wilson has announced that he will fill openings this Spring for professional boxers who want to improve their skills and maximize their earning ability by attending his training camp in north-central Pennsylvania. Wilson brings to the table his own experience as former sparring partner for Larry Holmes and other world-class heavy weight boxers. Spaces are available to beginners and experienced prizefighters in all weight classes, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, Wilson can be reached by email at zeke.wilson@wilsoninternational.us or by phone at 570.295.7632 or 585.596.5226.

The training facility is situated in a rural area of north-central PA, and includes lodging and training facilities. "In today's competitive sports economy, it has been established that the proper training and preparation for a career in professional sports is essential for success. By removing the stresses of everyday life and providing a focused environment, we will give young fighters the opportunity to sharpen their skills and work toward their career goals," explains Wilson regarding this unique approach to training.

It is well-known that the potential exists for boxers to make millions of dollars in today's sports-entertainment environment-as long as they employ the proper preparation and career planning. Wilson witnessed this first-hand during his years as a sparring partner for Larry Holmes, and so has combined the need for seclusion during the critical stages of training within a residential facility that provides housing, training, career management, and promotion for aspiring young boxers.

These are the main areas that he has identified as the most crucial for fighters at all phases of their careers:
• Training: Training must include an assessment of current skills and a targeted plan for the strengths and weaknesses of each boxer. Well-matched sparring partners will be utilized in order to raise the skill level of each fighter and to help strengthen weaknesses.
• Management: In order to be effective, proper management-including matching with suitable opponents and proper timing of bouts-must be an integral part of the training plan.
• Promotion: The final element that must be incorporated into the overall plan is the promotion of each boxer. Extensive press work will be used to increase name recognition, which in turn increases marketability.
States Wilson, "Boxing has always been my first love. I plan to use my years of experience in the sport to help these young fighters to maximize their potential. Boxing has always been a part of my life and I see this facility as a natural progression of my career, branching out to share my experience with young fighters. I look forward to helping to shape the careers of young boxers."

Wilson has had a long, successful career in boxing. In 1973, Wilson began his career at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, SC, where he was trained by Macauley Washburn and the All-Marine Boxing Champion Sgt. David Robinson.
Upon graduating from Beaufort High School in 1976 and relocating to Philadelphia, he trained under the tutelage of George Benton and former world heavyweight champion Joe Frazier.

Wilson used his boxing skills to earn many honors during his amateur career. In November of 1975, he fought David Thompson in Hilton Head, SC, for the South Carolina State championship, and won by a unanimous decision.

His amateur career qualified him to compete in the USA AAU Heavyweight Boxoff held in June of 1977. He won the Heavyweight Elimination held in the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, OH.

As his experience in the sport grew, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and became a member of the Marine Corps Boxing Team. In July 1979, he competed successfully in the Marine Base Championship at Camp Pendleton, CA.
After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, he was honorably discharged in 1982 and became a sparring partner for then-current heavy weight champion Larry Holmes.

His career has continued to advance, and in addition to fighting on a professional level he also trained, managed, and promoted both amateur and professional prizefighters. He has developed a line of fitness products and videos, including his popular Ze'Box Aerobic Boxing videos, sportswear line, and boxing equipment.

Wilson enjoys participating in strength sports, and currently holds the Amateur Athletic Union PA State, American and World records in the Squat, Benchpress, and Deadlift events.

His life work is the subject of the book, "The Eighth Round," available in bookstores worldwide and online through retailers.
Wilson has been chosen to be honored this summer at the annual event and Induction Weekend at the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame in Belfast, NY for his contributions to the sport, both in the ring and as a result of his legal battle to ensure greater accountability and proper administration of the authority of the state athletic commissions. He spends a great deal of time counseling youths and in helping them to set life goals and pursue a healthy lifestyle and has served as the Executive Director of Big Zeke's Power Kids (www.bigzekespowerkids.org) for the past eleven years. Wilson lives in Pennsylvania with his wife Connie and daughter Florence.

For more information, Wilson can be reached by email at zeke.wilson@wilsoninternational.us or by phone at 570.295.7632 or 585.596.5226.
