Florida Author Encourages Teen Reading

Florida Author Kelly Abell wants to encourage teens to read. After writing her first young adult novel to inspire her daughter to read, Kelly wants to spread the word that Reading Is Cool.

2010-08-23
RIVERVIEW, FL, August 23, 2010 (Press-News.org) With the new age of video games and MP3 players reading is becoming something fewer teens enjoy. In fact, when asking her teenage son who might be interested in a copy of her book, he said, "Mom, we watch movies nowadays. Nobody reads." This is a sad thing for Kelly as an author to hear, not only because it is a passion of hers, but because reading opens new worlds and offers hours of escape with education built in along the way. She, herself an avid reader all her life, has her fondest memories curled up on the couch with her mother, reading a good book. "Many things I've encountered later in life, I am familiar with because of books I read as a teen."

In order to help encourage teen reading, Kelly wants to offer her young adult book at a special price in order for teachers to acquire this thrilling, chilling novel for their classroom libraries with the hope that teens will find it fascinating enough to spend a few hours with a book instead of a television or video game.

Kelly's Young Adult Novel Haunted Destiny has received many 5 star reviews from respected review sites such as Manic Readers, CoffeeTime Romance, and the Paranormal Romance Guild. Here is a blurb:
Destiny Dove is the only survivor of a tragic car crash that killed her parents and baby brother. A teen uprooted from her home and forced to live with her eccentric grandmother whom Destiny has been taught her whole life to fear. She must start her life over living not only with an old woman who is a stranger to her, but just strange. All Destiny wants is to fit in with kids like her and begin to pull her life back together.

But Destiny soon discovers she is not like other teens at all. She has developed the family gift of being able to see and talk to ghosts, and her estranged grandmother will be the one person who will help her understand what the fates have dealt her...a haunted destiny. Being the town freak puts Destiny on the loser list, hot hunk Jake Turner see something in her that the other teens from Blake High don't. When Jakes sister is suddenly killed, Destiny helps Jake communicate with her and the two are drawn to each other. In an extraordinary twist of events, Jake's girlfriend Amy receives some furniture with some terrifying spirits attached to it. When Jake turns to Destiny for help it ignites Amy's jealousy.

A party at Amy's becomes a showdown between good and evil and will be the ultimate test for Destiny. Will the help of her grandmother, two resident ghosts and a surprise visitor be enough to rid the Morgan family of the spirit possessing them. Or will the ancient evil destroy them all?
