Hospice Of Wake County Celebrates Service To The Community With 34th Annual Dinner And Fundraiser

Hospice of Wake County celebrated a year of accomplishments at its 34th Annual Dinner and Fundraiser on March 7th.

2013-03-30
RALEIGH, NC, March 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) The annual affair was hosted by WRAL-TV's Monica Laliberte, with a culinary dining experience and auction that included an Angus Barn Wine Cellar Dinner and a Sonoma Wine Country Extravaganza. Guest author and award winning humor columnist, Celia Rivenbark entertained the audience with humorous readings from her latest book: You Don't Sweat Much for a Fat Girl: Observations on Life from the Shallow End of the Pool.

According to Special Event Coordinator Kelly Hughes, the annual event goes a long way in offering compassionate care for people in need. "It's not just about how much was raised, but what that money means," said Hughes. "The money will give peace of mind, grief support, emotional and spiritual support for patients and family members, as well as a quality end-of-life care for those who might not otherwise be able to afford it."

Hospice of Wake County has grown since its founding in 1979, with 20 volunteers and one full-time employee that served 12 patients, to more than 400 volunteers and 300 employees serving 3,775 patients in 2012.

Hospice of Wake County serves people in Wake, Durham, Johnston, Franklin and Harnett Counties," said Michael Blanchard, VP of Development. "The annual benefit helps us raise money to pay for patient care that Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance doesn't support. We couldn't have been more pleased with the support."

Sponsors of the event included The Banks and Dorothy Kerr Fund of the Triangle Community Foundation, American Home Health Care, Eisai, First Citizens Bank, WakeMed, BB&T and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
