First Ever Open Device Lab In the Cincinnati Area To Launch April 8th

CINCINNATI, OH, April 04, 2013 (Press-News.org) The startup community in Cincinnati, Ohio has been thriving in recent years. More access to capital, business accelerators, and other resources are encouraging innovation in many different areas. To help support this growth and encourage further innovation, locally-based startup CoupSmart will be launching the city's first Open Device Lab (ODL) on April 8th, 2013. An Open Device Lab helps developers access a number of smartphone and tablet devices for testing in one place, leading to an ultimate improvement of the mobile web and app experience for the end-consumer.

As the number of devices increase, testing on different platforms and operating systems becomes more complex and testing timelines become more of an investment. The Cincinnati Open Device Lab at CoupSmart Offices hope to help optimize development time by providing the space and tools for this much-needed community service. Initial devices have been provided by CoupSmart, as well as employees of K&R Software and Intelemage.

"I read an article on this idea of Open Device Labs, and thought it could be something valuable for us to contribute to the creative community in our area," says Kara Loo, designer at CoupSmart. Loo is heading up the ODL project at the company to coordinate with visitors and help them have a productive experience. "Testing our own technology has always been a challenge since we don't possess all of these devices that it needs to perform on. Many other entrepreneurs are in the same position. Using part of our offices to house an ODL allows us access to more of these devices, and offers an opportunity to meet other creatives in our community that are getting that same benefit. Everyone wins. "

With thousands of mobile devices in the market it's nearly impossible for developers to purchase all the devices needed for testing. The nearest ODL to Cincinnati is over 100 miles away, so this lab will be a go-to resource to the ever-growing creative and entrepreneurial community in the city and its surrounding areas.
